1 mL Serum (Minimum 0.5 mL)/ The main use for the Free PSA assay lies in delineating benign prostate hyperplasia from prostate carcinoma by forming the Free PSA/Total PSA quotients in untreated patients having Total PSA values of 4-10 ug/L. The formation of Free PSA/Total PSA quotients for patients with Total PSA values less than 4 ug/L or greater than 10 ug/L does not improve the clinical value of the results. This test should be ordered in conjunction with a Total PSA.
