Preparation & Notes

Obtain 1.0-2.0 mL (pediatric: 1.0 mL) of bone marrow in a green top(sodium heparin) tube(s). Invert several times to mix bone marrow. (Clotted bone marrow will be rejected). Other anticoagulants used other than sodium heparin will be rejected as they are harmful to the viability of the cells. Label vial with patient's name, and laboratory control number. Send specimen with the refrigerated pack-not frozen pack, specimen cannot be frozen.
