Test Information

Name: NMRLPP (NMR Lipid Particles Profile)

Code: N5577-GM

Sample Type: Plasma

Turnaround Time (TAT): 8 days

Preparation & Notes

Background on the test: - Quantifies lipid content (cholesterol and triglycerides) of the main lipoprotein classes: VLDL, IDL, LDL, and HDL. - Measures particle number and size of the main lipoprotein subclasses (large, medium, small). - Assesses and manages patient risk for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). - Identifies residual risk in patients on cholesterol-targeting treatment. - LDL particle (LDL-P) concentration is associated with ASCVD risk. LDL-P contains various lipids and proteins, including phospholipids, triglycerides, and cholesterol, with LDL cholesterol serving as a surrogate biomarker for LDL-P. • Specimen: - Specimen type: Plasma. - Patient preparation: Fasting overnight (12-14 hours) is required. - Collection container/tube: Purple top. - Submission container/tube: Plastic vial. - Collection instructions: Allow isopropyl alcohol (from phlebotomy site prep) to dry thoroughly before venipuncture. - Specimen minimum volume: 1 mL. - Conditions that may cause the specimen to be rejected: Gross hemolysis, Gross lipemia, Gross icterus, and samples with volume less than 1 mL. - Shipping stability: Refrigerated – 7 days, Frozen – 14 days.
