Preparation & Notes

biopsy and/or Slides and/or paraffin blocks & pathology report from referring hospital. Note: No such specimens should be accepted without optimal communication, correlation, and arrangement between Neurologist and Neuropathologist before obtaining such special biopsies. The following points are recommended: 1. A minimum of 4 cm, whole thickness of the sural nerve gives the best yield Biopsy the more clinically affected side/ side of smaller action potential 3. Care and gentle handling of the nerve must be exercised to avoid nerve damage. 4. Nerve gently divided: around 1 cm put in 3% glutaraldehyde (essential for plastic/epoxy embedding) , and the rest in 10% formalin.
